Helping Those Suffering with Diabetes: Especially the First Nations Community.

Helping Those Suffering with Diabetes:
Especially the First Nations Community.

A recent article appeared in written by Life Choice founder and owner Eldon Dahl, Doctorate of Natural Medicine title " Helping Those Suffering with Diabetes--Especially the First Nations Community."

The article examined the rate of diabetes among first Nations communities in Canada and concluded that  "First Nations people are more likely to develop diabetes in their lifetime. In the general population of youth, the estimated diabetes risk is 5 out of 10. In First Nations communities, the estimated risk is 8 out of 10 youths."

Dahl goes on to explain how "generally speaking, there are 3 main causes for diabetes: genetics, behavior (diet/exercise), and environment" and how in "the case of the Native  population, the environmental factor may play a more crucial role than most people realize".

Dahl writes "If First Nations people live in an area where fresh food is unattainable or expensive, it can be more difficult to maintain the healthy lifestyle needed to stave off diabetes."

In 2011 A Government of Canada report supported Dahl's claim by stating back in 2011...

"Type 2 diabetes is a health concern among Canada's First Nations and Inuit. First Nations on reserve have a rate of diabetes three to five times higher than that of other Canadians. Rates of diabetes among the Inuit are expected to rise significantly in the future given that risk factors such as obesity, physical inactivity, and unhealthy eating patterns are high."

And on April 7, of this year Global News presented a piece titled "Rates of Diabetes Staggering In First Nations Communities" which also supports Dahl's diabetes claims....

Quoting a member of a First Nations Community....

"First Nations people develop diabetes sooner than other people in the population... So it is not your 85 year old grandmother, its your 35 year old neighbor and that is a significant issue because that means people are developing the complications of diabetes sooner than they otherwise would. "

The Many Health Risks of Early Menopause

The Many Health Risks of Early Menopause

Women who enter menopause before age 45 are more likely to have cardiovascular problems and to die younger than women who enter menopause later in life, according to a new analysis.

According to an article in Reuters Health titled  "Early Menopause Tied to Heart Risk and Early Death" the findings of the study  discussed in the article suggest that the age at which a women reaches menopause may help predict women's risk for future health problems.

The study "compared women who had their period before age 45 to women who entered menopause after the age of 45 and found that women with earlier menopause had a 50% higher risk of coronary heart disease, which can cause chest pains, heart attacks and strokes as plaque builds up on the walls of the arteries."

The article goes on to say that "women who enter menopause before age 45 were also 20% more likely than women with later menopause to die from cardiovascular disease."

In separate article titled "7 Things Early Menopause Means for your Health' written by Claire Williams in Prevention Magazine on February 25, 2015 it was mentioned that women who encounter early menopause "age faster" than those who reach menopause later in life. The reason? Tiny structures in the body called telomores.

"Telomeres are tiny structures that protect DNA from damage, and based on their length can indicate your biological age. Shorter Telomeres equals more advanced aging..  women who experience  menopause early see shorted telomores."

This article also goes on to suggest that women who experience early menopause are also at a higher risk for bone fractures. The reason? Lower estrogen levels which means lower bone density

"... and while all women  experience a drop in bone density when they go through menopause, women in early menopause will spend more years with weaker bones compared to their friends who don't see a decline untill their 50s."

The article concludes by suggesting that those who experience early menopause are also at an increased risk of getting Alzheiner's, diabetes and cancer. The reason for this can once again be attributed to shorter telomores.

"Shorter telomores indicate more than just expedited aging - damaged DNA actually increases your risk of age related illnesses including Alzheimer, diabetes and cancer, according to research."

Why Research Should Be Supported by Public Funding Rather than Depending on Industry Funding

The importance of publicly funded research as opposed to industry funded research was on display in an article published by the New York Times on September 12, 2016.

The article titled "How the Sugar Industry Shifted Blame to Fat" focused 3 Harvard scientists who were paid to down play the link between sugar and heart disease. However, that was not the only example given where privately funded scientists skewed the data in favor of their sponsor. Two other examples involving Coca Cola and the Candy Manufacturers Association also showed similar skewed or biased results.
On September 12, 2016 the New York Times published an article titled "How the Sugar Industry Shifted Blame to Fat"
The article revealed that in the 1960s the sugar industry paid scientists to play down the link between sugar and heart disease and promote saturated fat as the culprit instead.
The article also goes on to say that five decades of research into the role of nutrition and heart disease, including many of today's dietary recommendations, may have been largely shaped by the sugar industry.
How the Sugar Industry Shifted Blame to Fat

The article reveals how Coca Cola the worlds largest producer of sugary beverages had provided millions of dollars in funding to researchers who sought to play down the link between sugary drinks and obesity.
In June, the Associated Press reported that candy makers were funding studies that claimed that children who eat candy tend to weigh less than children who do not.

At Life Choice We Understand

At Life Choice we understand the importance of good health. Yet, we also understand that good health can only be achieved if those who are studying health and nutrition do so in an unbiased, neutral and objective way.

Failure to do so because of any monetary gain or private payoff not only does a disservice to the research profession as a whole, but it shows a complete lack of professionalism and lack of integrity to those who are doing the research.

The Anti-Aging Effects of Daily HGH Release

The Anti-Aging Effects of Daily HGH Release

On September 7, 2016 published an article written by Life Choice founder and owner Eldon Dahl, Doctorate of Natural Medicine titled "The Anti Aging Effects of Daily HGH Release".

In that article Dahl referred to a number of studies that "documented that the correction of human growth hormone (HGH) deficiency in men and women above the age of 30 can assist the body dramatically in improving everything from bone mass, energy, mood, cognitive function, immunity, sleep quality, libido, skin tone, fat loss, muscle mass and so much more."

As Dahl noted in the article "Once born, we begin to grow and for growth to happen we need adequate human growth hormone (HGH)...but by the time we reach our 30th year, HGH levels are only about 20 percent of their peak levels during childhood, and after the age of 30, they continue to decline at about 12 to 15 percent per decade, and often much more depending on the circumstances.

Dahl continued by saying "The decline in HGH is not the only cause of the manifestations of aging. Even if our HGH levels remained at the level of a 25 year-old, we would continue to experience the effects of aging, but those effects would be greatly reduced until we reached a very advanced age. HGH does not affect the root cause of aging, as measured by maximum lifespan, but it can certainly affect many of the manifestations of aging. By increasing the levels of HGH in our bodies, we can slow, or even reverse, many of the manifestations of aging."

The 5 Surprising Benefits of Melatonin That Go Beyond A Good Nights Sleep

A recent article appeared in Chatlaine Magazine written by Natash Turner, ND titled "Five Benefits of Melatonin Beyond a Good Night's Sleep."

In this article Dr. Turner looked at 5 additional benefits of melatonin that went beyond its ability to encourage sleep.

From slowing the aging process, to reducing migraines, to slimming waistlines and boosting thyroid activity she was able to produce five different types of research that showed the benefits of melatonin.

Five Research backed benefits of Melatonin

In the first case she revealed a study by the Douglas Mental Health University Institute that "found that low melatonin levels play a role in PMDD, a severe type of PMS which causes extreme mood shifts and physical symptoms.

In the second case she referred to a "research team in Paris who found that melatonin based treatment can delay the first signs of aging in small mammals by at least three months (considering the animal could only live up to 30 months in captivity, this was quite substantial)."

In another example, she referred to a "Nurses' Health Study, which show that participants with the lowest melatonin levels faced two times the risk of developing diabetes, compared with those with the highest levels."

In a fourth example, she mentioned a study published in the "Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry that showed that 3 mg of melatonon significantly reduced headache frequency. Supporting research published in Neurology found that patients taking 3 mg of melatonin nightly for a month experienced 2.5 fewer migraine attacks."

In the final example she referred to "researchers from the Menopause Center in Italy who found that among peri-menopausal and menopausal women aged 42-62, administering 3 mg of melatonin for six months at bedtime caused most of the women to report a general improvement of mood and a reduction in symptoms of depression, and highly significant improvement of thyroid function."

At Life Choice We Understand

"Melatonin is a hormone and all hormones need to be pharmaceutical grade."

At Life Choice we understand the importance of sleep as it relates to women's health. That is why we formulated and possess the only patented version of melatonin in the world - Melapure Melatonin.

Life Choice's Melatonin

Life Choice® has the only patented version of melatonin in the world - Melapure Melatonin.

Sweet Dreams Liquid Melatonin MelapureMelatonin is a substance found in almost all cells from the simplest life forms (algae) to the human body. Melatonin is produced and secreted by the pineal gland and as we age secretion decreases.Supplementation of melatonin may be able to replace the decreased secretion that is part of the aging process.

The hormone melatonin in clinical studies has shown to produce rapid sleep onset, and to increase the duration of sleep.
Some reports show that around age 6, melatonin secretions from the pineal gland begin to decrease due to the increased intake of food as we grow (melatonin is thought to be found in all foods). But the melatonin in foods may not be enough to replace the needs in the body, so it is highly recommended to use dietary supplementation as a means of receiving additional melatoninmore

Not all Melatonin's are created equal!

Life Choice's Melatonin is one of the highest grade Melatonin's on the market today! They use only 100% DMF (Drug Master File) patented pharmaceutical grade raw material, paying 700% more for their raw material than that which is purchased without a patent.

The reason for this decision is twofold. First the material is clinically researched, and second, the quality is consistently high with each order.

Melatonin - Natural versus Synthetic

One would assume that melatonin is melatonin but that is clearly not the case. Melatonin is a hormone and hormones must be USP Pharmaceutical grade to ensure safety.

The research is in…melatonin derived from unknown sources causes side effects. The pineal gland is very sensitive, and melatonin is hormone the pineal gland uses. Do you think triggering such an important gland that controls bodily functions such as sleep/wake cycle, reproductive development, and targets both the central and peripheral nervous system tissues should come from a source that is patented and secure? Can you imagine stimulating this gland with an animal pineal gland or animal mixed with unknown synthetic sources? It is no wonder why Chinese sources are associated with such radical side effects. Price comparison, Life Choice pays over 700% more than material can be sourced from China, and the price difference is worth every penny.

Melatonin - Standard Grade or Patented Pharmaceutical Grade?

Two forms of melatonin exist on the market, the natural standard form which comes from the pineal gland of animals and mixed with unknown synthetic material. And the patented USP pharmaceutical grade melatonin that Life Choice uses. Life Choice uses the same chemical pathway as natural melatonin secreted from the pineal gland.  Standard melatonin may pose a risk to humans because it can be contaminated with animal viruses. Patented Pharmaceutical grade does not as it is safer because it is produced to be free from biological contaminants.
