Calcium: Are Some Older Woman Getting Too Much?
What's The Risk?

(Calgary, AB)  On June 14, 2014 an article appeared in the Natural Standard titled  "Some Older Women Getting Too Much Calcium." The article focused on a study that suggested that hypercalciuria and hypercalcemia, conditions in which calcium levels in the blood and urine are too high, might occur after the use of vitamin D and calcium supplements in older women.

As was noted in the article, "calcium supplements are widely used to reduce bone resorption in osteoporosis.  [It is the]Vitamin D [that] aids in the absorption of calcium. It is used alone or in combination with calcium, to increase bone mineral density and decrease fractures."

The article ended by saying that 'it is unclear if the combination of vitamin D and calcium, or the use of just one them alone is the cause."

At Life Choice We Understand!

When asked to comment on these findings Dr. Eldon Dahl, ND said "when we are talking about calcium, the form that we are talking about here, and the type mostly recommended by doctors is Caltrate; this is a poor choice, but unfortunately this is the one that is the most highly recommended."

He continued, 'Caltrate, or other forms of calcium on their own or with vitamin D, without the proper transporter, is not enough for re-mineralization or absorption to the bones. What is needed is the proper transporter balance of trace minerals with a bioavailable magnesium, just like we have with in our Life Choice natural supplement Opti Cal/Mag with K2-MK7

Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body, with 99 % found in bones and teeth. The remaining one percent is responsible for strengthening cell membranes. Calcium supports the nervous system, hormone formations and proper blood clotting. Research continues to point to calcium deficiency as the primary cause of osteoporosis, the demineralization of bones. more
