(Calgary, AB) On April 15, 2014 an article appeared in PreventDisease.com titled Children Are Slower, Heavier and Worse Off Physically, Emotionally and Developmentally Than One Generation Before Them. The article, written by  Marco Torres goes on to explain how a poor diet and a lack of physical activity have reached epidemic proportions in the United States.

The author then goes on to cite an interesting statistic - "Obesity rates in children have more than tripled in the last 30 years."


When it comes to weight issues, an article published on Web Md titled Obesity In Children cites diet and inactivity as contributing factors to the problem.
 
"A child's total diet and activity level play an important role in determining a child's weight. Today, many children spend a lot time being inactive. For example, the average child spends approximately four hours each day watching television. As computers and video games become increasingly popular, the number of hours of inactivity may increase."
